5 Shows to Watch If You Loved Season 2 of Bridgerton

Alas, this chapter of Bridgerton has come to a close. If you’re like me and have already binged the long-awaited season 2, you’re eager to find the next show that evokes all the same feels as the clever modern-ish period drama. Here is a list to provide you with just that! Comment below what shows you'll be binging after watching Bridgerton season 2!

Dickinson

Where to watch: Apple TV+

In this period comedy, Hailee Steinfeld portrays the famous poet, Emily Dickinson. The story centers around her life as a blossoming writer. The show’s creators modernized the story by adding elements such as hip hop music and current slang. For any Bridgerton fan who appreciates the show’s subtle nods to current culture such as classical renditions of pop hits, Dickinson is an obvious next watch.

Gossip Girl

Where to watch: HBO Max

Picture the illustrious Lady Whistledown in the form of an Instagram account, then add Kristen Bell's voice; this is what you get in Gossip Girl. While GG is not a period piece, it includes all the elements we love about Bridgerton - sex, scandal, betrayal - told through the lives of high schoolers from NYC’s upper-east side. Much like Bridgerton’s Lady Whistledown, a chunk of GG’s plot is centered around finding, appeasing and tricking the "Instagrammer" known as Gossip Girl who wreaks havoc on New York’s elite.

Sex Education

Where to watch: Netflix

If you fell in love with Miss Kate Sharma from season 2, you must watch Simone Ashley work her mean-girl magic in Sex Education! This show centers around the sexual plights of high schoolers from a private school in England. The main character, Otis, helps Ashley’s character, Olivia, overcome a fear she has of looking “ugly” in intimate settings. Olivia’s story is one of self-acceptance and growth - much like Kate’s story in Bridgerton season 2!

Crashing

Where to watch: Netflix

If you could not get enough of Anthony Bridgerton in season 2, do yourself a favor and watch Jonathan Bailey in Crashing! This British comedy details the lives of a group of friends living in an old hospital as property guards. When the audience first meets Bailey's character, Sam, he is the life of the party. However, it is soon revealed there is a depth to Sam that might not meet the eye. Bonus: Jonathon Bailey is blonde in this series!!

The Great

Where to watch: Hulu

The Great can only be described as a raunchy historical satire. It is indeed a period piece, but is very loosely rooted in actual history and relies heavily on dark comedy; the beginning of episodes tout the show as being "an occasionally true story." Starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, the show details the life of Catherine the Great during the 18th century and her marriage to the Russian Emperor, Peter III.
